Case Study: Furniture Project at New NRC Coleraine Campus

Introduction

This case study examines the comprehensive furniture supply and fitting project undertaken by our furniture team at Creative Activity for the new campus of Northern Regional College (NRC) in Coleraine, set to open in September 2024 for the new acedemic year. Fully funded by the Department for the Economy, the new campus features state-of-the-art facilities designed to enhance the teaching and learning environment for both Further and Higher Education.

Project Background

The new 12,500 sq m building on Union Street, designed to replace the former NRC buildings on the site and the Ballymoney campus, integrates the historic St. Patrick’s Church of Ireland school buildings on Brook Street. The project, managed by main contractor Heron Brothers Ltd, aims to improve the quality of the College’s estate and create a modern, attractive educational environment.

Furniture Supply & Fitting Overview

Our company was contracted to supply and fit furniture across various key areas of the new campus. Our objective was to provide high-quality, durable, and aesthetically pleasing furniture to support the College's goal of creating an advanced educational facility. Below is an overview of the key areas we furnished.

Reception Area

• Main Showpiece: The highlight of our work is the beautifully crafted curved reception desk, made with a sleek white solid surface. This piece not only serves as a functional workspace but also enhances the visual appeal of the reception area.

Classrooms and Science Labs

• Classroom Furniture: We supplied robust and ergonomic furniture to support an effective learning environment.
• Science Lab Stools: Specifically designed for laboratory use, these stools are both durable and comfortable, ensuring safety and functionality for students during lab activities.

Hair & Beauty Room

• Bespoke Desk and Worktop: We created a custom desk and worktop tailored to the unique needs of the Hair & Beauty room, providing a professional and practical workspace for students.

Conference Rooms

• Conference Table & Chairs: High-quality chairs were supplied to ensure comfort during meetings and conferences, facilitating productive sessions.

Library

• Main Desk: A functional and elegant main desk was installed to serve as the central point for library services.
• Library Shelving: We provided a range of shelving solutions to maximize storage and accessibility of library resources.

Canteen Area

• Noticeboards: Practical and stylish noticeboards were fitted to provide a space for important information and announcements.

Engineering Room

• Work Benches: We designed and installed sturdy, durable work benches tailored to the needs of the Engineering room, providing students with reliable and practical workspaces for their projects.
