Creative Activity partnered with North West Regional College (NWRC) to install two bespoke Senso Cubes - one located within the Student Zone at the Strand Road Campus and the other at the Limavady Campus.

As a busy further education environment, NWRC recognised that both campus life and classroom-based activities can be overwhelming for some students. The college wanted to introduce a sensory solution that would support emotional regulation, wellbeing, and learning while fitting seamlessly into existing shared spaces.

The Challenge

NWRC identified a growing need for quiet, sensory-friendly spaces to support students throughout the day. However, like many colleges, they faced several challenges:

• No available classrooms or rooms to convert into a traditional sensory room

• A need to keep students on campus rather than leaving when overwhelmed

• The requirement for a solution that could sit within busy student areas without disruption

Previously, students who struggled with sensory overload often felt they had no option but to leave campus entirely in order to regulate.

Our Solution

The Senso Cube provided an ideal solution. As a free-standing sensory unit, it could be installed directly within the Student Zone without taking over classrooms or office space.

To ensure confidence in the investment, the NWRC team visited a local school with an existing Senso Cube installation to see the space in use. This real-life experience helped solidify the decision.

Each Senso Cube was fully customised using NWRC’s colours and branding, allowing the spaces to feel like a natural part of the college environment rather than an add-on. The cubes provide students with a calm, controlled space to self-regulate and then return to class ready to engage with their learning.

Results & Feedback

The introduction of the Senso Cubes has had a positive impact across both campuses. Students are now able to regulate throughout the day and return to the classroom to continue their work, rather than leaving campus altogether. This has helped improve student engagement, wellbeing, and overall retention on campus.

The installation process was completed efficiently, with both units installed and ready for use within a single day.
